Yet the longer route may become less suitable if it demands extra stops, creates driver fatigue or reaches the destination after unloading staff have left. The correct decision considers the whole transport chain, not mileage in isolation.

The physical and scheduling risk is concentrated in repeated braking, public waiting and the final handover rather than distance.

A safer plan may use an earlier booked slot, a surveyed service entrance, a vehicle that fits the bay, a second handler and a secure fallback holding area. Merely leaving “plenty of driving time” would not control the real hazards.
