Estate Planning

Estate planning is the process of preparing for the future management, transfer or disposal of a collection should a collector become unable to manage it themselves or upon their death. While many collectors focus on acquiring, preserving and documenting their collections, planning for their eventual stewardship can be equally important.

Collections often contain specialised knowledge that may not be immediately apparent to family members, executors or beneficiaries. Without appropriate records and guidance, important items may be overlooked, undervalued, incorrectly identified or disposed of in ways that do not reflect the collector's intentions.

Effective estate planning combines documentation, valuation, legal planning and practical guidance. By preparing clear records and considering future ownership, collectors can help preserve both the financial and historical value of their collections while reducing uncertainty for those responsible for managing them in the future.
