Object identity
Records disagree about the edition, variant, manufacture date, dimensions, serial number, catalogue number, inscriptions, packaging, components, restoration or photographs. This category deserves immediate attention because genuine paperwork for a similar object is not provenance for the object in front of you.
- Do all records identify the same physical item?
- Could restoration, replacement parts or changed packaging explain the difference?
- Is there an object-specific identifier or distinctive wear pattern that joins the records together?
